Vicenza is a city in northeastern Italy, in the Veneto region at the northern base of Monte Berico, where it straddles the Bacchiglione River. Vicenza is a thriving, cosmopolitan city with a rich history and culture, home to many museums, art galleries, piazzas, villas, churches, and elegant Renaissance palazzi. Main Tourist Attractions • Basilica Palladiana: A massive structure on the city’s main square, it still features the old leaning clock tower from a previous building on the same site. • Loggia del Capitanio. • Teatro Olimpico: The oldest enclosed theater in the world, most noteworthy for its pioneering use of Renaissance perspective in a three‑dimensional space. • Chiesa di Santa Corona. • Palazzo Leoni Montanari: A beautifully decorated palace that houses a notable collection of Russian icons, as well as capricci and paintings by Pietro Longhi. • Palazzo Valmarana Braga: A monumental palace designed by Palladio, the first in his career to feature columns running the entire length of the building’s façade. • Palazzo Barbaran: The only palace in the city center that Palladio both started and completed. • Palazzo Thiene: Now the headquarters of a bank, much of its interior has unfortunately been altered to accommodate its current function.
