Phnom Penh, situated at the junction of the Mekong and Tonle Sap rivers, is the capital and the largest city of Cambodia. Although much of the city's French charm has faded, a few beautiful French colonial buildings still remain. The primary tourist attractions in Phnom Penh include the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, the Killing Fields, the National Museum, the Royal Palace, the Silver Pagoda, and the Wat Phnom temple. Currently, Phnom Penh is one of the fastest-growing cities in Southeast Asia, boasting high-end cuisine, a vibrant arts scene, and a wide variety of markets. Phnom Penh is a worthwhile destination and serves as a convenient base for exploring the rest of the country.
