The so-called "City of Lakes" or the "Venice of the East" is situated in the state of Rajasthan and is considered by many to be one of the most romantic cities in India. Jewel of the Mewar kingdom, which encompassed part of the Aravali Mountains, Udaipur has up to five lakes that contribute to its status as "Venice of the East" thanks to its magical panoramas, only interrupted by ancient palaces converted today into the ultimate definition of luxury and splendour. From the medieval charm of the 11 palaces making up the famous City Palace, to the 19 chhatris (or Rajasthani cenotaphys) that make up the mausoleum of Ahar, to its Monsoon Palace, erected on top of a hill, Udaipur is steeped in history on all sides. A city that invites you to wander through its streets and admire its craftsmanship, overlook balconies of another era from which to feel part of a lush royal lineage but, especially, finish any route on Lake Pichola, the heart of Udaipur.
