Daegu, South Korea

Daegu South Korea

Daegu, also spelled Taegu, is the fourth-largest city in South Korea. The city is the capital and main city of the surrounding Gyeongsangbuk-do province, although it is not legally part of the province. Daegu is one of Korea’s six major metropolitan cities and has many traditional tourist attractions, such as Bullo-dong Ancient Tomb Park, which has the largest concentration of ancient tombs in all of Korea, and the Daegu Bangjja Brassware Museum, which displays brassware, one of Korea’s traditional cultural crafts. The famous Yugasa Temple in Daegu, located deep in the valley of Mt Biseulsan, was founded by the Buddhist monk Doseongguksa in 827 AD. There are many folk tales related to Doseongguksa in Mt Biseulsan. Thanks to its quiet surroundings, this temple is an excellent place for meditation. A must-visit for anyone looking for excitement, relaxation and a real taste of Daegu is Suseongmot Lake, the largest man-made lake in the city at 218,000㎡ in area and 2km in circumference. It was originally created as a reservoir for agricultural water but has since grown into Daegu’s most popular public park, offering spaces for all kinds of outdoor activities throughout the year, including boating and laser water shows.
