Salento Italy

Salento is a region in the far south of Apulia, in Southern Italy, forming a sub‑peninsula of the Italian Peninsula that’s often described as the “heel” of Italy’s “boot”. It covers all of the province of Lecce, most of the province of Brindisi, and part of the province of Taranto. The area is also known as Terra d’Otranto and was historically called Sallentina. In ancient times it was variously referred to as Calabria or Messapia.
