Angkor Archaeological Park, situated in the town of Siam Reap in the north of Cambodia, is one of the most enigmatic historical sites in the world. Siam Reap town is the gateway to Angkor. Siem Reap is a relaxed and charming French colonial style town located on the banks of the Siem Reap River. Roughly 6 kilometres from the town lie the ruins of the ancient city of Angkor, the capital of the Khmer kingdom and one of the world's great wonders. The City of Kings, Angkor is home to some of the largest religious monuments ever built. It's regarded as one of the most stunning and significant archaeological sites in Southeast Asia. The over 100 temples seen at Angkor today are the surviving religious remains of a massive social and administrative metropolis. The temples are spread out over a vast area and require multiple days to fully appreciate. Angkor Wat is the cultural heart of the Khmer people and is recognised as one of The Seven Wonders of the World. Siam Reap town is a delightful place to stay while touring the temples.
